National Night Out

Due to the Covid-19 situation our National Night Out Committee has decided to move the date of our National Night Out Celebration this year from the traditional date of the first Tuesday in August.

At this time we are planning on having Night Out on Tuesday August 25th with a possible alternate date of  Tuesday September 1st. Our Committee does not want to cancel the program but in order to keep everyone safe we will require that masks be worn by everyone in attendance and that social distancing is practiced. We will have safety precautions in place and we will separate the picnic tables around Washington Park so there is distance between our citizens and families during the evening and we will keep them separated for the usual Movie that we end the night with. As always we will have Police Officers and Firefighters on location and we will interact in a safe way with all that attend.

The Night Out Committee wants to thank all of our citizens that come out for this very important Community event every year and we look forward to seeing all of you again this year and ask everyone to help us have a safe event. We enjoy great success with crime prevention and public safety in our Community and that only happens with all of us continuing to work together. Please mark your calendar and we will update everyone as we get closer to our event as we look forward to another very successful Night Out Celebration in the City of Dunkirk.

Vehicle Pursuit

On Tuesday July 14th at about 4:00pm, officers of the City of Dunkirk Police Department located a vehicle that had previously been reported stolen, being operated on the roadway near the intersection of Maple Ave. and W. Courtney St. Officers confirmed the vehicle to be stolen and attempted to execute a vehicle and traffic stop on the vehicle in question. The operator of the vehicle failed to comply with the traffic stop and led officers on a brief pursuit through the City, which ended when the vehicle came to a stop on Park Ave. near E. Second St. A total of five passengers were inside the vehicle, all of which were juveniles. All juveniles in the vehicle were identified and turned over to a parent or guardian. The operator of the vehicle was transported to police headquarters for further questioning in the presence of a guardian. One juvenile was evaluated by Dunkirk Fire/Rescue for a possible panic attack and transported to Brooks Hospital via Dunkirk Fire. This incident is still under investigation and charges against the juveniles involved are pending with Family court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Social Security Number Scam

There is currently a phone scam that is indicating that your Social Security number has been compromised and your number will be frozen. The Scam also states that if you don’t talk to them or call back there will be a warrant for your arrest.

This is a scam. If you received this call DO NOT call back or give any information, simply just hang up.
