Dunkirk Police Department Adopts Nextdoor and Dog Walker Watch Programs
WHO: The Dunkirk Police Department, including Mayor Anthony J. Dolce, Chief David Ortolano, and all Dunkirk City residents
WHAT: Everyone is cordially invited to attend this press conference as the Dunkirk Police Department introduces two new initiatives:
(1) The Dunkirk Police Department is announcing a partnership with Nextdoor (www.nextdoor.com), the free and private social network for neighborhoods, to build stronger, safer communities with the help of residents. This integration with Nextdoor will enable the Dunkirk Police Department to communicate online with city neighborhoods. Residents and the Dunkirk Police Department will be able to work together to increase safety and strengthen virtual neighborhood watch. For the last two months, the Dunkirk Police Department has worked with neighborhood watch leaders to set up several virtual neighborhoods on Nextdoor.com and the City of Dunkirk now has about 350 members. This press conference will detail the initiative and explain its use with the goal of expanding the membership.
(2) Dog Walker Watch (DWW) is a crime awareness program sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and coordinated locally by law enforcement agencies and crime watch groups or other community organizations. The program encourages dog walkers nationwide to serve as “extra eyes and ears” for local law enforcement agencies in the ongoing crime prevention efforts. If you are a dog walker, we encourage you to attend for a special power point presentation to learn techniques to assist police.
