Just after 1:30 AM on May 21st the City of Dunkirk Police responded to the Halas Hotel Bar at 92 E. 2nd St. for a report of a large fight with multiple gunshots. On arrival Dunkirk Police, assisted by officers from the Fredonia Police Department, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the N.Y. State Police dispersed a large, unruly crowd in the street outside the bar. Investigation of the incident lead to the identification of a suspect in the gunshots complaint and the seizure of a loaded 9 mm handgun, which he had hidden in the restroom inside the establishment.
Hector J. Camacho Jr. was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree for the loaded firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and a second count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree for possessing a large capacity ammunition feeding device. All of the charges are Felonies. He was taken to the Dunkirk Police Lockup, where he is being held without bail pending arraignment in Dunkirk City Court. Investigation of the incident is continuing and additional arrests are likely.
